Onvo is a regional gas station and convenience retail brand operating across Pennsylvania. The Mansfield, PA location represents a new construction project coordinated alongside the general contractor, J&M Construction Specialty. Inc.
With a clean slate and high expectations for both quality and schedule compliance, the project called for a roofing partner capable of adapting to active jobsite coordination without creating delays or quality issues.
The Challenge
New construction roofing is a different animal from replacement work. Everything happens in sequence with other trades, and falling out of step with the general contractor's production schedule can create ripple effects across the entire build.
Equity Commercial Roofing faced two specific coordination challenges on this project:
- Delivering installation work that met the quality bar required for a new construction environment
- Executing within J&M's production schedule without causing delays
An additional logistical wrinkle included the edge metals, which required a second mobilization to complete. Rather than treating this as an inconvenience, the team planned for it as a discrete phase of work, ensuring the second visit did not impact the broader project timeline.
Custom-colored edge metal was also required, with multiple colors anticipated based on the aesthetic approach used on a prior Onvo location in Duncannon, PA. Sourcing the right materials, confirming color specifications, and coordinating supplemental components (including scuppers, leader heads, downspouts, and coping quoted through Bowlder Metals) added procurement and scheduling complexity to the project.
The Solution
Equity Commercial Roofing installed a Versico TPO roofing system across 98 squares of new construction roof deck. TPO was the clear choice for this application. It delivers excellent energy efficiency, long-term weathertight performance, and a clean aesthetic that fits the modern design standards of the Onvo brand.
Key elements of the solution included:
- TPO membrane installation on a new construction deck
- Custom edge metal in multiple colors, shop-bent or factory-sourced to match the color palette established at the Onvo-Duncannon location
- A planned second mobilization specifically for edge metal installation
- Full coordination of supplemental roofing components
- Safety protocol, including flagging and tie-off requirements, with 28-foot ladder access to the roof
The Results
The Onvo Mansfield project was completed on a new construction timeline, in coordination with J&M's broader build schedule. By prioritizing quality workmanship and schedule compliance from the start, Equity Commercial Roofing delivered a roof system that met the demands of a brand-new commercial facility without causing delays or requiring corrective work.
The result is a finished roof system that will perform reliably for decades—and a subcontractor relationship with J&M that was built on demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to making their job easier.
