"The crew worked long hours and did a wonderful job. We had a terrible experience with our previous roof job which was 20 years ago. The crew did a great job and I would recommend them again."

About
First Presbyterian Church in Milton, Pennsylvania, is a historic building built in 1838, per the Bells History of Northumberland County. As a property with such architectural character, it demanded careful handling. The facility includes a main sanctuary with copper guttering, a bell tower, a rear entrance with a flat EPDM roof, and multiple roofing planes across the complex. With 200 roofing squares in scope, this was not a routine job. The congregation had already navigated a difficult experience with a previous contractor, and they were looking for a team they could trust to get it right.
The Challenge
When Equity Commercial Roofing arrived for the pre-construction walkthrough, the concern was immediately apparent: the existing sheathing (installed by a prior contractor) had large gaps that compromised the roof system's integrity. Left unaddressed, those gaps could undermine any new roof installed over them, no matter the material quality. The client knew this, and they made it clear that quality and communication were non-negotiables. The margin for error was essentially zero.
Layered onto the structural issue was the logistical complexity of the site itself:
- Multiple roof types and elevations required a 28-foot ladder and both a 60-foot forklift and 60-foot manlift for safe access.
- The rear parking lot served as the primary staging area, but Sunday access had to be preserved throughout the project.
- Long-lead items (specifically custom box gutters in Everlast Mansard Brown) required advance planning to avoid schedule delays.
- The project required a municipal permit, adding another coordination layer to the timeline.

The Solution
Equity Commercial Roofing approached this project with a plan built around precision and proactive communication. Before a single shingle was pulled, a pre-construction meeting was scheduled to align the production team, the client contact (Zach Edinger), and all key stakeholders on expectations, sequencing, and site logistics.
The production plan included:
- Full tear-off of existing shingles, membrane, and insulation/coverboard across all in-scope roof planes.
- Installation of new roof sheathing to address the gap problem left by the previous contractor, with 600 pieces of decking included in the estimate.
- Owens Corning Duration shingles in Onyx Black as the primary roofing material, delivering long-term performance backed by OC's warranty program.
- White shop-bent edge metal (280 linear feet) for a clean, finished perimeter.
- Full gutter replacement with new box gutters in Everlast Mansard Brown, sourced early given the lead-time requirements.
- Tie-off fall protection protocols were maintained throughout the project.
- Equipter deployment to manage tear-off debris efficiently and protect the property.
All roof penetrations remained in place. CompanyCam documentation was updated with annotated project areas and photos cleared for client-facing use prior to job start.

The Results
The completed project delivered a structurally sound, properly sheathed roof system, installed with the communication and craftsmanship the congregation had been promised. Key outcomes included:
- 200 roofing squares replaced using Owens Corning Duration shingles in the color Onyx Black with zero disruption to Sunday services or parking access.
- New sheathing eliminated the gap problem, giving the new roofing system a solid, continuous substrate for the long term.
- Custom Everlast Mansard Brown box gutters installed and integrated seamlessly with the existing copper sanctuary gutters that were preserved.
- Deposit received, contract signed, and project documentation complete through HubSpot.
This project is a strong example of what Equity Commercial Roofing does best: show up with a plan, communicate clearly, and deliver work that holds up both literally and visually.
