About First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church is an established congregation located in Milton, Pennsylvania. As a cornerstone of the local community, the facility serves hundreds of members and requires dependable, long-term building maintenance to continue its mission without interruption.

The Challenge

First Baptist Church needed a full roof replacement across 240 squares of aging shingles, with a hard completion deadline of May 31, 2025. The project presented two structural challenges: a pair of humps in the roof plane that required corrective work— including removing plywood and trimming down the tops of the affected trusses—to achieve a flat, properly draining surface.

Eight existing skylights also needed full replacement, requiring careful coordination to protect the decorative interior molding surrounding each opening during removal. The freestanding Port-Cochere flat roof at the main entrance was explicitly out of scope and needed to remain undisturbed throughout the project.

The Solution

Equity Roofing performed a complete shingle tear-off and replacement, accessing the roof with a 28-foot ladder. The crew corrected both structural humps by removing the necessary plywood sections and cutting the truss heights down to produce a level, properly aligned roof plane.

All eight skylights were replaced with new units; the team coordinated with the building interior during removal to keep the finish molding around each skylight opening intact. White drip edge (280 LF) was installed at the eaves, all existing roof penetrations were preserved and sealed, and gutters were cleaned and left in place.

The eight replacement skylights were identified early as long-lead items and ordered in advance to keep the project on schedule. The Port-Cochere flat roof was left entirely unchanged per the project scope.
